Dream Job

I am getting ready for a quick trip to Chicago, the quintessential American city, where I am going to have the thrill of singing with a full orchestra in the Civic Opera House at the Alzheimer's Association Rita Hayworth Gala. It's like a dream, and that's not just an expression. I did dream this years ago, when I was living in the Adirondack Mountains, dreamed that I was singing in an opera house, with an orchestra, wearing a strapless gown (me, not the orchestra). And tomorrow morning I will be packing a black strapless gown into a suitcase, and heading for the airport.

I'm a little nervous - in the dream my performance was terrific, but in waking reality, I won't be getting much rehearsal time with the orchestra, and the songs I am doing for this occasion are all new to me. A steep learning curve that has to be charged up quickly. Well, what is 33 years of professional experience for if not this kind of thing? Wish me luck, my dears. I'll tell you all about it when I get back.
