For your consideration

One of the most time-consuming necessities of life in the arts is foraging for money. Unless you are standing on a corner singing improvised songs into the wind, just about everything you want to do artistically requires a preliminary infusion of cash. If you are not "to the manner born" (and by that I mean the manor manner), where does the money come from?

I have read that when Maharishi Mahesh Yogi wanted to build a  multi-million dollar meditation center, he was asked that very question, and his response was, "Wherever it is at the moment". So we have simply to connect here to there, to ease its way. It can feel like lonely work, especially now that the illusion of record companies giving artists anything at all has vanished, but new ways are manifesting, thanks to the Internet and the positive aspects of social networking.

My dear friend and occasional teaching colleague, Wendy Lane Bailey , is getting ready to do her first solo recording, and she is hoping to solve that problem by signing up with Kickstarter, a site designed to help artists raise money for their projects. She is a lovely singer, and her choice of material is always smart and surprising. I invite you to look at Wendy's Kickstarter page, and to consider making a contribution if you are able. And if you are an artist, you might want to check out the site for your future projects.
