Three's the Charm
As some of you may have already read on Enrique's fan club site (http://laurelmasse.blogspot.com/) or Janis Siegel's website (www.janissiegel.com) , the girl trio that was Moxie is back in business at last, with new member Lauren Kinhan of New York Voices. Moxie had to sit out a few dances after Cheryl Bentyne moved out to California. We were presented with the difficult task of replacing CB, and Janis and I spent much of last year meeting with Ann Hampton Callaway. In the end Ann's other commitments proved so demanding that she regretfully backed out. Janis suggested we call Lauren. Bingo! and Voilà! We have found our third voice. Lauren is a wonderful singer and songwriter with a quick sense of humor and a command of many different styles of music. She is a distinctive soloist who can also blend into a group sound - a rare combination. Working with her is going to be inspiring, as working with Janis always is, and I am very excited about our collaboration. We have picked out a number of songs to arrange and rehearse; there will be Boswell Sisters tunes, of course, and vocalese numbers, standards and not-at-all-standards, and also original songs from each of us. Stay tuned!
