La Vie en Studio
Four songs in four hours. That's pretty good, I think. We're at Ambient, a gorgeous studio up in Stamford, CT, where everything works, and the room smells of clean wood. If you have ever been in a recording studio, you know that's not the usual aroma. The piano is fantastic. After some of the planters and Lego toys Tex has had to play at various gigs, I am delighted to see him happily piano'd.
We recorded Anyplace I Hang My Hat is Home (Harold Arlen/Johny Mercer), La Vie en Rose (Louiguy/Edith Piaf/Mack David), Sweet and Slow (Harry Warren/Al Dubin) and Crazy (Willie Nelson). We already have three other tunes "in the can", as the saying goes, from an earlier session in the city.
I have loved recording from the first time I stepped up to the microphone in 1972. It's an opportunity to be completely focused. You turn your phone off, ignore the computer, and simply be, in the present moment. Creating something beautiful, saying something true.
It's really too bad about having to make a living, isn't it?
