please sir, could I have some more?

What a gorgeous day here! I've spent it working on some great new songs from a contemporary musical. They're terrific tunes, why else would I choose them? But something I never worried about much before - changing lyrics that refer too specifically to the plot of a particular show, or that were written for a male character - feels a little problematic when the composer is very alive. And probably lives in my neighborhood. And might be offended.

When Streisand wanted to record Putting it Together for her Broadway album, she called Sondheim, asked him to write a new verse, and HE DID! But would someone do that for me?

Amusing to be so unnerved (I am!) by the idea of simply asking. For heaven's sake, I feel like I am about five. I hope to be more grown up tomorrow.
